I'm workin' on it. :) Next up is a violently anti-tech
underground group known as the Biota. But gimme another week or so; this
whole day job thing doesn't intersect well with gaming. Also in the
hopper is the Vezina Pacification Committee and the Spencer Underground.
I'd love to see others (hint hint, RC players); I'm trying to change the
RC from a monolith or quasi-monolith to someplace a touch more (dare I
say it) punk, at least in my own game. That's a style my players like.

This is a nifty idea; it's something I hadn't considered. Sanlii
Buckner is not, by my original conception, a remnant SolSeccer, but that
doesn't mean that there aren't some of those influencing her or the whole
"pro-human" movement. I think I'll need to reread "Rats & Cats".

The Weights and Prices are missing. Could you please re-post this table?

The Sun's Diameter is about 865,000 miles, or 1,392,000 km. For the
purposes of this discussion this can be rounded to 1.4 million km.

As it happens, 1 Astronomical Unit is 149.6 million km, or slightly over
100 diameters out from the Sun, which is the standard for Stellar Diameter.
This leads to a good approximation: The Stellar Diameter table (present in
Book 6:Scouts) also gives the distance in AU of the local Stellar Jump
Horizon. Compare this to the Orbits table or simply convert it to millions
of kilometers (or range in hexes) to get a useful number for calculating
travel times.

Now, it could be TTrue ("Traveller True") that masses like a star have
an additional effect on the actual range to their Jump Horizon. It sounds
like an additional complication I don't really need.

The more annoying problem is with Gas Giants and their attendent moons.
While it is easy to tell IF a given moon is within the GGs Jump Horizon,
getting the GGs actual diameter to calculate travel times requires a dig
through the reference material to find a table for gas giant sizes (there
are several such in Traveller books). Forewarned, a referee can have the
actual diameters of important (to the story; I don't recommend doing this
for every gas giant in the sector) Gas Giants.

I just had to say that.

I'm looking for Challange 54, or more specifically it's Wet Navy article
(Pt. 2). Anyone willing to sell? Please email me.

Well, as Scott Nolan notified you, FASA said no way, Jose, to the idea of
purchasing Traveller. Here's a transcript of their response:

=========================================================================
Dear Christopher,

So you want FASA to buy Traveler. It's an interesting idea, I'll grant you
that. But to be honest, we filled the void of Star Trek 3 years ago-with
Earthdawn. Producing a licensed product is always difficult, that is one of the
reasons we let Star Trek fade away. We have found that there is much more
artistic freedom working on something created ourselves. As nice as it could
be, it's just not worth the headaches. Sorry. But, it's a fun notion to
entertain.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Sincerely,

Jill Lucas

==========================================================================

I'm not completely disheartened, however. At least this discussion has given me
hope that GDW may still get their house in order and the game may survive. I
continue to buy all their products and to support them inasmuch as I'd like to
see the game continue, even if I don't agree with the exact direction they've
chosen.
